This is an outdoor-first suggested itinerary, not ten museum visits. Allow 6–8 hours with breaks and roughly 6–7 km on foot. Times are planning estimates, not live navigation.
Wear comfortable shoes: expect cobbles, crowds and uphill sections. For a shorter afternoon, begin at Piazza Navona and follow the final five stops.
— Begin with the outside of the Colosseum and its huge arches. Allow about 30 minutes here, then 20 minutes along Via dei Fori Imperiali towards the Capitoline Hill. Inside entry is optional: book a timed ticket separately and allow much longer.
Campidoglio — Take the Cordonata up to the elegant oval square, then look towards the Forum from the hill. Allow 25 minutes for the square and views; the Capitoline Museums are a separate visit, not included in this walk. Continue downhill for about 5 minutes.
Piazza Venezia — Pause on the pavement for the Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia rather than crossing into traffic for a photograph. This is a 15-minute outdoor stop. Continue towards Largo di Torre Argentina, roughly 10 minutes away; follow signed crossings around any roadworks.
Largo di Torre Argentina — Look down into the four ancient temple ruins from street level. Allow 15 minutes for this free viewpoint. Entering the archaeological area below is a separate paid visit with opening hours; it is not needed for this route. The next walk takes about 10 minutes.
Campo de' Fiori — Slow down for lunch and the life of the square. The market normally runs Monday–Saturday mornings, so do not expect the same stalls in the afternoon or on Sunday. Allow 35 minutes to browse, plus your lunch break; choose a menu and budget that suit you. Piazza Navona is about 10 minutes away.
Piazza Navona — Walk the length of this long piazza and find its three fountains, with the Four Rivers fountain at the centre. Allow 25 minutes to linger rather than just ticking off a photo. This is a free outdoor square. Continue through the small streets towards the Pantheon, around 10 minutes away.

Pantheon — The portico and Piazza della Rotonda make a rewarding stop even without going inside. Allow 25 minutes outside. To see the dome and oculus, add a separately ticketed interior visit and more time; services and access rules can affect entry. Trevi is about 15 minutes on foot from here.

Trevi Fountain — Take in the fountain from the public piazza and give yourself around 20 minutes. The outside view is free; access to the inner basin area currently costs €2 and follows controlled entry hours. Do not confuse that ticket with the public view. Keep the basin clear: no sitting on its edges or eating there. Walk about 15 minutes towards Piazza di Spagna.

Spanish Steps and Piazza di Spagna — See the Barcaccia fountain and climb the steps if that suits your mobility and energy. Allow 20 minutes, then follow the upper streets towards the Pincio; the uphill section can take 20–25 minutes. The steps are for moving through, not for sitting or picnicking.

Terrazza del Pincio — Finish above Piazza del Popolo with rooftops, domes and a wide view of Rome. Allow 30 minutes and aim for the light before sunset, adjusted to the season. This is an outdoor viewpoint rather than a guaranteed sunset appointment; weather and access can change the experience.

Make it your own: keep the full walk, remove stops for a slower day or add a personal coffee stop. The order links the neighbourhoods, but you do not need to rush. The map is an overview; use Directions for actual walking navigation. Admission prices and opening hours for optional interiors should be checked again before travel.
