A romantic day in Colmar, Alsace, France: canals, wine and a cosy dinner
A slow day for two in Colmar, France: colourful canal houses, something good from the market, a little old-town wandering and dinner worth lingering over. The walks are short; the best part is leaving room to stop together.
Start When You Like
This is a flexible day plan, best Tuesday–Saturday when the market and afternoon wine stop fit together. Allow roughly 5–6 hours of visits and walking, spread across the day, with a free afternoon break before dinner at 19:00. Walking and visit times are personal planning estimates, not live navigation. Cobbles and busy bridges can slow things down.
1 · A Base Near The Canals — Optional
Hôtel Le Colombier is a convenient overnight option at 7 rue de Turenne. If you are staying there, arrange luggage storage or check-in directly, then head out light. Skip this stop if you already have a base: the market makes an easy starting point.

At Marché Couvert, wander before choosing your food. Make this a late breakfast or light lunch rather than another booking to rush towards. Browsing is free; food is paid separately. Closed Monday; Tue–Thu 08:00–18:00, Fri to 19:00, Sat to 17:00, Sun 10:00–14:00. Individual stalls can differ.

Walk to the rue de Turenne bridge and follow the Lauch at your own pace. Stop for the reflections, not just the photo. There is no boat booking built into this plan: the canal-side walk is enough, and you can add a boat trip separately if it suits you.

Continue to Maison Pfister on rue des Marchands. Its painted facade and wooden gallery reward a slower look. This stop is for the exterior, not a promised interior visit. Leave yourself time for a side street, a shop or a coffee before moving on.

Domaine Robert Karcher et Fils is a different wine stop on rue de l’Ours. Ask ahead about tasting availability, format and price; this plan does not include a reserved or free tasting. The estate lists Mon–Sat 08:00–12:00 and 13:30–19:00, Sun 09:00–12:00. If wine is not your thing, swap this for a café. On Sunday, move it to the morning or skip it.

Return towards the canals for Wistub Brenner. Book a table for two and take your time over an Alsatian meal. Evening service is 19:00–22:00; lunch is 12:00–16:00, with the last lunch order at 15:45. Menu choices and drinks determine the cost. The gap before dinner is yours: rest, explore or change the plan.

Finish on Quai de la Poissonnerie. A short stroll along the fishermen’s houses is a lovely way to end the day. Evening light depends on the season, so there is no fixed sunset appointment here.

Keep the canal walk and old-town stop, replace the hotel, skip the wine or add a place of your own. Use this route to make an editable personal copy, then change the stops to fit your day. The original plan stays unchanged.
Practical details checked for planning in October 2026; confirm venue hours and reservations for your date. Public outdoor stops have no admission ticket. Hotel, food, wine and any boat trip are separate costs.
